The “P” building project involved the complete renovation of an existing two-story concrete gymnasium building. The upgraded facility included new work-out rooms, locker rooms, classrooms, and faculty and staff offices and workspace. The work included installation of solar panels, interior and exterior demolition, interior partitions, a curtain wall system, ceilings, mechanical and electrical systems and fixtures, plumbing systems and fixtures, a new roofing system, and enhanced architectural finishes. Exterior work included enhanced Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) access and parking upgrades.
The project design, by gkkworks, received a Design Visionary Award by the American Institute of Architects at its May 2009 Annual Design Awards. The Design Visionary Award recognizes projects in design but not yet completed, and which demonstrate exemplary design intent.
