Scope/Summary:
The "L" building renovation consisted of the interior demolition of an existing two-story concrete building, complete structural upgrades, and an interior renovation totaling approximately 28,700 square feet for what is now known as the Academic Success Center. The renovation provided new space for tutoring, Math and English centers, Trio Aspire, New Horizons, Umoja, Math, English and Science Achievement (MESA), and Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS), Assessment and Advising, along with general classroom space.
The project involved replacement of all exterior windows and doors, replacement of elevators and interior stairs, new interior non-load bearing partitions, modifications to structural concrete, new ceilings, new mechanical and electrical systems, fixtures, and all new architectural finishes. Nearly 5,000 square feet of the existing concrete structure was preserved and sandblasted. Exterior work includes a new entry canopy structure, lighting, and signage. All existing landscaping was preserved.
The project includes a number of special features - All exterior aluminum windows have been treated with a thermal-setting powder coat finish to optimize temperature control efficiency. Waterless urinals and electric hand-dryers were installed in restrooms to cut down utilities expenditures. EnviroSLAB terrazzo was used for all countertops and backsplashes. This terrazzo is made from 100 percent post-consumer/post-industrial recycled glass.
