Environmental sustainability is an essential goal of the
District
. Escalating energy costs require that management at all levels focus on the efficient and effective use of resources.
All projects are required to exceed Title 24 of California Code of Regulations energy efficiency standards by at least 10%. On average, SDCCD projects exceed
Title 24
by 20%, and some as high as 49.5%. Efforts to incorporate energy efficiencies into our designs have resulted in financial incentives provided to the District by SDG&E’s Savings by Design program in excess of $1 million.
The
District
requires all projects to divert at least 75% of construction and demolition debris from landfills. In most cases, the amount has been significantly higher, up to 92% in some cases. Beyond the construction waste diversion, active recycling programs are in place at all campuses and the District offices, divert a significantly higher percentage of its waste stream than the 50% required by legislation, as much as 89% at some locations.
